We recently installed 13 helical piers to support a deck in Lake Lorelei, a lakeside community in Brown County, Ohio.

A deck enhances your home in numerous ways. It creates an inviting outdoor space for relaxation, entertaining, and family gatherings. Beyond providing a beautiful transition between indoor and outdoor living areas, a well-designed deck can also boost your home’s value and curb appeal, allowing you to fully enjoy your yard for various activities. Wether you DIY your deck build or hire a contractor, it is crucial to consider how your deck will be supported.

Why Choose Helical Piers?

This homeowner opted for helical piers to support their deck due to the large trees in the area. By choosing helical piers, they avoided damaging the trees’ root systems, which would have been a concern with concrete piers. Helical piers are installed deeper, well below the roots, making them less susceptible to interference from root growth. As it was, our install went smoothly, we were able to navigate around the roots with few problems.

Additional reasons to choose helical piers for your deck support:

To truly enjoy your deck, it’s essential to provide proper support. Investing in a beautiful deck only to have it sink or collapse due to inadequate support is a nightmare. Here’s why helical piers are a reliable option:

  • Fast Installation

Our team can install helical piers quickly. Once we place them, you can start construction right away—no waiting for concrete to cure.

  • Weather Resilience

We can install helical piers in wet or cold conditions. Unlike traditional concrete, weather won’t delay our work, making this a reliable option year-round. Helical piers are also great options for docks or other water structures.

Foundation Repair Methods, Helical Piers for dock

  • High Load Capacity

These piers handle significant loads. They provide design flexibility and prevent settling over time, even under heavy use.

  • Precision Monitoring

We use a torque pin monitor during installation. This tool allows us to assess each pier’s capacity in real-time and maintain detailed project records.

  • Deep Installation

Typically, we install our piers at a minimum depth of 7 feet. This depth usually reaches undisturbed soil, which is crucial for stability. In contrast, concrete piers often go down only to below frost depth, around 32 inches. We can extend the pier depth to enhance load capacity or reach undisturbed soil, there is virtually no limit to how far we can go if needed.

  • Durable Material

Our helical piers use high-quality steel that ensures long-lasting durability. Most piers will last around 150 years under normal conditions, with bare steel options lasting over 80 years and galvanized options exceeding 120 years. While soil conditions and environmental factors can affect longevity, we install piers that are built to provide exceptional strength and durability.

  • Flexible Connection Brackets

The connection brackets we use provide flexibility during construction and actively ensure strong performance, even when the piers aren’t perfectly positioned.

  • No Excavation Needed

Our installation method requires no soil excavation or haul-off. This approach keeps the project cleaner and more efficient.
