Exterior Waterproofing: The Best Way to Protect Your Home
This home was dealing with a classic problem: water collecting along the foundation. In this case, the corner of the yard sloped directly toward the house, sending water straight to the west wall. The grading was working against the structure, and over time, the soil around the wall had become compacted and clogged—leaving water with nowhere to go.
Although the wall hadn’t failed yet, there were signs of stress, including a few cracks. That’s when the homeowners brought in an engineer to evaluate the situation. Based on their recommendations, we moved forward with a full exterior waterproofing system.
Why Water Around Your Foundation Matters
Water doesn’t have to mean damage—yet. But when it can’t drain properly, pressure builds up against the walls. In clay-heavy soil, this happens even faster, because fine particles can block the original drainage materials over time. Once that pressure starts to build, even a solid wall can begin to bow or crack.
Our Solution
We installed a full exterior waterproofing system to take care of the problem at its source. First, we excavated the west wall to expose the foundation and see exactly what we were working with. At the bottom, we added a solid PVC drainpipe surrounded by clean gravel to help direct water away from the house. Then we applied a waterproof coating and installed a drainage membrane to create a clear path for water to flow away.
Finally, we backfilled with the right material and compacted it in layers to restore stability and prevent future settling.
Why Exterior Waterproofing Is So Effective
Interior systems only manage the water after it gets in. Exterior waterproofing does something better—it keeps the water out entirely. By fixing the grading and creating a clear drainage path, we were able to stop water from pooling around the foundation and prevent further pressure on the wall.
If you’re seeing water around your home—or noticing small cracks or signs of stress in your foundation—reach out. We can help you figure out the next step and protect your home before the damage gets worse.
