Basement Beam Replacement – Fort Thomas, KY
Our team recently completed a basement beam replacement project in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, for a returning customer. We first worked with her last year when we replaced a damaged lintel and installed a glass block window. She was so pleased with our work that she contacted us again for this new project.
Proactive Homeowner Decision
Before contacting our team, she consulted an engineer. The engineer said the existing 4” x 4” wood beam and posts could be monitored safely. However, she wanted to prevent future issues rather than wait for problems to appear. Choosing a proactive solution, she decided to replace the beam entirely.

Replacing the Beam
We first installed temporary shoring to hold the floor safely while the new system went in. Our team then removed the old 4” x 4” beam and posts. We installed a W6x9 steel beam spanning up to 10 feet, with small overhangs on each end. The beam sits on 3” diameter schedule 40 adjustable steel columns, each supported by 1’-6” x 1’-6” x 12” thick concrete footings. Once the steel beam and columns were in place, we removed the shoring as the new structure now carries the load safely and efficiently.
Happy Results
After the installation, the homeowner immediately noticed a difference. She reported that the floor above felt much more stable and solid. This project shows how a straightforward reinforcement can greatly improve the long-term stability of a home.
