exterior corrections for diagonal cracking

This particular home was experiencing diagonal cracking on its front foundation wall as well as some wall movement.  The cause of this was likely due to unbalanced soil pressure.  The owner hired Hughes Construction to install the recommended corrections designed by Buyers Protection Group.

Hughes Construction excavated the foundation to allow for the installation of two counterforts and a new drainage line. In addition we sealed and capped the foundation wall with dimple board to facilitate drainage. These corrections will stabilize the foundation wall and help move water away from the homes foundation. It is very important that homes have the appropriate drainage around their foundation. A lack of drainage or an old drainage system that does not work as effectively and efficiently as it once did, can lead to foundation issues. Water that builds up in the soil along the foundation can cause unbalanced soil pressure. This in turn can result in cracked walls, water infiltration and even wall movement.

Experiencing diagonal cracking in your basement? Or maybe you have other foundation concerns?  Any issues or concerns should be looked at sooner rather than later.  Keep in mind that it is always best to contact a structural engineer before contacting contractors. The engineer will take all factors into consideration and determine the best approach for your home’s needs.
