From Asphalt to Concrete: A Hillside Ranch Gets an Upgrade

Returning to a Hillside Ranch
We recently completed a concrete project for a returning customer at a 1968 ranch home nestled on a hillside. Last year, we installed helical piers to support a new deck overlooking the slope. He was happy with our work and contacted us again to replace all the old asphalt with concrete.
Concrete Work and Site Preparation
The project included removing trees, stumps, and the old driveway entrance. Our team tore out all asphalt and concrete from the work areas. We then installed new concrete throughout, added parking areas, a patio, a sidewalk with steps, and a new driveway and approach.
Although the original plan included pouring a new front porch, the homeowner decided to keep the one he already had. It was still in good shape and worked well with the new layout.
Drainage Adjustments
Drainage was another key part of the plan. Initially, we proposed a trench drain near the garage entrance that would connect to an existing downspout at the back of the house. Once on site, we adjusted the plan and installed a steel grate instead. This better fit the grading as well as simplified future maintenance.
After the concrete was poured, we removed the remaining asphalt. Leftover soil from the mound area was used to fill in for future sod. Disturbed lawn areas were then seeded and covered with straw.
Consultation Appointments
All concrete projects are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We’re happy to provide free verbal quotes for concrete flatwork if you can supply a clear scope and accurate measurements.
However, if the project involves drainage work—or if you’re ready to move forward with a formal concrete quote—we require a design consultation.
-
Consultation Fee: $300This includes one hour on site, laser grade readings (if needed), and up to two detailed estimates with one revision each.
-
Credit Toward Work: The consultation fee is applied directly to the cost of your project if you decide to proceed.
-
Additional Time: Extra site time can be added at $95/hour if needed.
Budgeting and Minimums
We have a $5,000 minimum for exterior concrete work, which typically covers 300–400 square feet. Standard removal and replacement generally ranges from $12–$15 per square foot with good equipment access.
Let us know if you’d like to schedule a consultation—we’d be happy to take a look at your project.
