Patio Installation Beneath an Existing Deck

We recently completed a unique project for a homeowner who wanted a concrete patio underneath an existing deck perched on a hill. Normally, it’s easier and more cost-effective to pour concrete first and then build the deck, but the homeowner already had a structure in place and wanted to use the space below.

The slope and low clearance beneath the deck made part of the job particularly challenging. Equipment could reach most of the site, but we had to handle the section under the deck mostly by hand. We graded, formed, hauled, and finished the concrete carefully to work in the tight space.

Before pouring, we focused on a solid base, which is one of the most important steps in any concrete project. We excavated and leveled the area, compacted the soil, and added a layer of gravel. This preparation ensures stability and proper drainage.

The homeowner also wanted a curved patio edge, which added complexity. Our standard forms are straight, so we built the curve using LP Smartside. The team carefully bent and secured the siding to match the design. The effort paid off, creating a natural, flowing shape that complements the landscape.

Despite the challenges, the final patio turned out beautifully. It provides a durable, well-drained, and functional space beneath the deck.

This project highlights our crew’s skill and versatility. Even when some areas require handwork and careful problem-solving, we adapt and deliver results that last.
